Along the way, I discovered that I am a natural teacher, after years of other students, and then my fellow artists, seeking out my visual expertise on their own. I have since taught and advised countless creatives, from teenagers to seniors, and at all levels from beginner to established professional.
As an arts educator, I balance technical skill with creativity, serious play with dedicated work. I believe these things are equally important, that one cannot stand without the other and be called art. My instruction combines classic techniques with individual expression and the cultivation of imagination. I am interested in teaching students how to paint using their own voice, their own vision, and their own hand as an artist.
I believe that students deserve the best a teacher has to give, and that the finest teachers are the ones who are constantly learning and growing, as well. Based on years of oil painting experience, plus extensive background in a wide variety of other media, I consider how best a student can gain their desired skill set, and be encouraged to continue with their art by having fun and always finding new things to discover. As a superb listener, I know how to tune into a student’s needs, while being able to guide them towards their goals with clear and honest communication.
